Walking Together for Suicide Prevention: Minnesota Hike for Hope
Ames team members joined industry partners in May to address one of construction’s most critical challenges: mental health and suicide prevention.
The Minnesota Construction Hike for Hope reflects our belief that safety includes supporting mental health. Hike for Hope is the signature event for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a construction-focused effort to reduce stigma and encourage open conversations across jobsites and offices.
The hike brought together 16 teams and more than 100 participants, raising over $100,000 for suicide prevention efforts. In an event highlight, participants including Ames’ Evan Schoenecker, Industrial Health and Wellness Manager, shared their personal experiences. Evan also highlighted Ames’ mental health program and the responsibility we carry as an industry leader. (Pictured with Evan: hike coordinator Ray Stenglein and fellow speaker Larry Wall of C. S. McCrossan.)
As a proud sponsor, Ames provided refreshments, with support from Mckenzie Cremer, Lisa Houle, Cindy Adams, Evan, and Brandon Faber (not pictured). We are grateful to AFSP, our Central Office and Support Services teams, and the people who showed up, shared their stories, and helped raise awareness.
