Stanly Students Visit SEAT Project at CLT
Ames Construction welcomed students from Stanly Community College’s Heavy Equipment Operators Program to the South End-Around Taxiway (SEAT) Project at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in April.
Students toured the active airfield construction site, learning about the SEAT project and Ames’ scope of work. The visit bridged classroom instruction with real-world application on a complex aviation project.
Superintendent Bryce Harris led the tour, walking students through construction activities and sequencing. Project Manager Quinnten Fowler spoke in depth about the ongoing work scopes and gave insight into what is still ahead for the project. Project foremen shared hands-on insight into the heavy equipment used on site, while Grant Crago, Chief Construction Inspector at CLT, discussed the project’s importance and oversight.
After completing a safety orientation, students had the opportunity to climb into Ames equipment—giving them a firsthand look at what a career as a heavy equipment operator could involve.
