Community Engagement

Ames Construction has a long history of supporting the communities in which we live and work. Across the regions, we support countless organizations, large and small, with financial contributions, event sponsorships and in-kind work. And it’s not just at the corporate level. You can see the giving spirit in our employees, who volunteer immeasurable hours of their time. Dozens of charities in every region benefit from the helping hands extended by our employees. Here are just a few.

Warming House Renovations

While constructing the Highway 43 Bridge Project in Winona, Minnesota, Ames workers donated and served a meal to guests at the Winona Community Warming Center in December of 2018. Learning of the need for expansion, Ames contacted suppliers for materials donations, and Ames donated the work to build it. Ames renovated the original sleeping quarters into a full-sized kitchen and dining room, the main area became the new storage and sleeping quarters, and two new bathrooms and an extra shower were added. Multiple community organizations and volunteers came together to complete the finishing work on the project, which opened November 1, 2019. In recognition for its efforts to plan and construct the expansion, Ames Construction received the 2018 Warming Center Community Outreach Award from Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota.

Light the Night

More than 2,000 people literally lit up Harriet Island in Minneapolis during the annual Light the Night event this past October to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Minnesota Chapter. In addition to an Ames- sponsored Glow Zone booth, Ames volunteers joined in the celebration to honor patients, survivors and the strides forward to end cancer. The family- friendly event included food, fun for the kids, and fireworks. Following an uplifting opening ceremony of people sharing their personal stories, thousands walked a mile-long path around Harriet Island carrying symbolic, illuminated Light the Night lanterns to bring light to the darkness of cancer.

Angel's Hands

The mission of Angel’s Hands Foundation (AHF) is to, “Improve the quality of life for individuals living with rare and undiagnosed diseases.” Founded in 2001, the non-profit offers financial support and provides year-round opportunities to help Utah families create memories that will sadly outlast many of their special children’s lives. Ames is proud to have been the Foundation’s first corporate sponsor. According to Co-founder Mark Kristensen, “For more than 18 years, Ames has helped AHF grow from a small organization supporting 10 families with various forms of a single rare disease, to an amazing foundation that supports about 600 families with more than 200 rare and undiagnosed medical conditions.”

National Western Stock Show

For more than 20 years, Ames Construction has been a Corporate Partner with the National Western Stock Show (NWSS) in Denver, Colorado. Established in 1906, NWSS is the premier livestock, rodeo, and horse show in the nation, serving agricultural producers and consumers throughout the world. Our sponsorship evolved into a partnership with the organization’s National Western Education Department, resulting in the Ames Activity Pavilion. The Pavilion features 75 events over the 16 days during the annual Stock Show, and remains focused on children’s education. Events held at the Pavilion include Top Hogs, Stick Horse Rodeos, Stick Horse Grand Prix, Tractor Races, Sheep Shearing, and Farmyard Follies.
