Snowmass Village Base

Synopsis of work:

This Ames Construction project included the development of the roadway and utility infrastructure for new Base Village at the Snowmass Ski Area.

The work on this project included excavation, dewatering, and backfill for the Phase One buildings and parking garage; installation of water, sanitary sewer, storm drain and snowmaking pipelines; installation of duct bank and conduit for dry utilities; temporary excavation support and permanent MSE retaining walls. In addition, Ames teams completed realignment and reconstruction of the roadway system in the area of the new base village and design and construction of two new bridges.

The project scope was complicated by the congested nature of the site, the required interaction with the building contractor and the many building trade subcontractors. In addition, like most projects of this type, many changes to the design occurred during construction as a result of the owner/developer changing plans for the project. Since the site is located at the base of the ski area, construction work was restricted to periods when the ski area was not in operation. Close coordination was required with Snowmass Village.

The successful completion of the project was due in large part to the Ames team's open communications with the many stakeholders.
