Ames worked with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to close the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) Landfill as part of the agency’s Closed Landfill Clean-up Program.
Ames removed and disposed of 500,000 cubic yards of existing cover soils, regraded 300,000 cubic yards of waste, installed 80 acres of liner, and performed infrastructure work including piping. Additional soils were placed on top of the liner, and an active gas system was installed, including 75 gas wells and 20,000 linear feet of HDPE gas header pipe.
